In
English
"Gesangverein Bavaria" means
"bavarian singing Society"
When
it was founded back in
1895, it was an all male singing society. They sang at concerts and
even traveled to other cities to sing at singing competitions.
In the early 1960's, the first woman joined the society later on more
ladies joined.
In June of 1995, we celebrated our 100th anniversary with a dinner and
a dance.
We, as a society, no longer sing publicly and have not done so for
many, many, years. As the older men passed on or moved away, no younger
men took their places. We sing, for our own enjoyment, at some meetings.
Our meetings take place at the Bavarain Inn on the 2nd Friday of the
month at 7 p.m. In winter, we have a Sunday Brunch at the Inn at
11:30a.m. with the meeting afterwards. A lot of our members do not like
to drive at night and having a Sunday Brunch fits the bill. In
Addition, we have our annual Christmas Dinner and picnic during the
summertime.
As we really don't sing anymore, we really are more of a social club.
We get together, have our meeting and later on play cards and just
enjoy talking with one another.
We members of Gesangverein Bavaria may not sing anymore, but we sure do
smile and laugh alot and try to have a good time.
